About People's Energy Cooperative
How We Got Started
People's Energy Cooperative was founded in 1936 thanks to a small group of people who organized a rural electric cooperative for Olmsted County. The incorporators, Harold Caulfield, Byron; Herbert C. Blumentrit, Chester; R.E. Richardson, Eyota; Louis Hammel, Eyota; and A.H. Johnson, Viola; named it People's Cooperative Power Association of Olmsted County.
Our Name
When the Cooperative started offering services beyond electrical service, it was therefore decided to change the name to People's Cooperative Services. Now, as a major energy provider, we felt it was important to include the word "energy" in our name to reflect our core business. While our legal name will remain, People's Cooperative Services, we do business as People's Energy Cooperative.
